HM Aerospace School Aiming For More Women Pilots

LANGKAWI, Dec 5 (Bernama) -- HM Aerospace Sdn Bhd (HMA), Malaysia's largest flight training academy is aiming to produce more women pilots in the country.

Executive chairman of HMA, Tan Sri Halim Mohammed, said since its establishment in 2004, the flying school has trained two women pilots, namely Iliyaquila Fateen Ismail and Nadira Ramli.

Talking to Bernama at the sideline of the ongoing Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2007 here today, Halim said Iliyaquila was the first woman pilot to receive her flying license and was currently employed by AirAsia. Nadira who was second, received her wings recently.

"This is something to be proud of. HMA has proven its success in producing not only male but women pilots as well," he said.

Currently there are also three women trainee pilots at the academy who are at various stages of training, he said, adding that the academy hoped to increase this number.

The academy which is capable of training 200 pilots a year is also considering training cadet pilots from overseas next year.

"We receive many applications from European countries, Middle East and from Asean member countries like Thailand, Myanmmar, Vietnam and Indonesia," he said.

A total of 23 trainees will also receive their wings after the LIMA 2007, he added.

The academy, which is located at Padang Matsirat in Langkawi, currently is offering training to more than 200 trainees including from Penerbangan Malaysia (MAS) and private candidates.

HMA has 23 aircrafts including Single Engine Socata TB10 Tobago GT, Single Engine All Composite Diamond DA40 and Twin Engine aircraft.
